Caramel Turtle Brownies
1 (14-oz.) bag caramels
1 (5-oz.) can evaporated milk
1 German chocolate cake mix
1/2 cup margarine, melted
1 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
1 (6-oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate morsels
- Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk over low heat, stirring until smooth and creamy, then set aside. Combine remaining evaporated milk, cake mix, and margarine and mix well. Press 1/2 of the cake mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch greased, glass baking dish. Bake at 350° for 6 minutes.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of chopped pecans and the chocolate morsels over the crust. Top with caramel mixture and spread to the edges of the pan.
- Then top with teaspoonfuls of remaining cake mixture and press gently into caramel mixture. Sprinkle with remaining pecans.
- Bake at 350° for another 20 minutes. Cool slightly and cut into bars. Serve slightly warm. Makes 2 dozen brownies.
