Bury the Bones of Your Past

I’ve heard it said that “you can’t go back and change the past any more than you can put toothpaste back in the tube.” So… what can we do to free ourselves from past hurts; the guilt, the fear, or the unforgiveness in our lives? How do we finally get rid of the shame and the torment of the past―those things that we are holding on to that is ruining our chances for the bright future God has planned for us?

Here are 3 things I believe we can do:

  1. ASK – Pray and expect God to help you release and forgive the things and people who have hurt or disappointed you. You can say, “Lord, forgive me for carrying bitterness, anguish, and resentment. Father, set me free so I can have a bright future. You promised that Your mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). From this point on, I’m getting a new start. Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing (Isaiah 43:18–19).
  2. BURY – Spiritually speaking, bury all the “should haves”, “could haves” and “what ifs” ―Then, don’t ever dig up those “bones’ of the past again! It’s time to say, “In Jesus Name, it’s over!”
  3. PLANT – Once those bones are buried, plant a seed on top of them. Make that place something new. Let God plant a garden where there used to be devastation. Plant a faith-seed of forgiveness, your prayers, or of blessing your enemies. Then expect a harvest of blessing to come back to you. See Galatians 6:7 & Luke 6:38.

If we will initiate the process, God can transform our lives into something new and wonderful!
